1984 O-Pee-Chee Michael Jackson trading cards are, for the most part, the same as the Topps Series 1 release. It’s easy to dismiss from a visual perspective, but it’s a fascinating showcase of a pop star’s rise to international superstardom. That, and MJ hanging with a llama.

The set is divided into two sections, each consisting of 33 cards. The first half is the main base set. They’ve got shots of Michael Jackson on the front and a variety of write-ups on the back that offer biographical info, trivia and plenty of stats and milestones. Coming out at a time where Jackson’s fame was unlike no other, it offers a look back at one of the most influential musicians of all-time. Even with the Internet offering MJ factoids a plenty, there are plenty of nuggets to uncover in this set.

And if that’s not good enough, the photos offer plenty of nostalgia for both Michael Jackson and the 1980s in general.

The remaining 33 cards are puzzle pieces on the back. This is where 1984 O-Pee-Chee Michael Jackson trading cards differ from Topps. The American version has these as stickers. Canadians got more cards. All combined, they form three different puzzles. Many of the photos are repeats from the base set. Several others are very similar.
