The late 1970s was a good time for sci-fi fans and trading card collectors to eat toast and grilled cheese. 1978 Wonder Bread Battlestar Galactica follows a similar path as Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind by getting an exclusive card for every specially marked loaf.
The set has 36 cards and highlights not only many of the main characters like Starbuck, Apollo and Adama, but some of the TV show’s strange creatures.
Fronts have a simple design with red borders and a rather large block dedicated to the show’s title art. Images are provided without a caption. Backs are even more simplistic with a brief write-up and the card number. Details and specifics are still pretty sparse, though.
Although not particularly rare, this set isn’t as plentiful as the mainstream set that Topps put out. But that should be understandable given the fact that this set was part of a limited time promotion. Under normal circumstances, a 36-card set would seem small. But when it’s one per loaf, that adds up to a lot of bread.
