If you’re a fan of the show, there are a lot of Star Trek trading cards out there. And while it’s not the first, 1976 Topps Star Trek might be the best. Combining classic shots of the original series with a vintage charm, it really is a fantastic set. It’s also quite valuable.
1976 Topps Star Trek Checklist Details
The set has 88 cards. Fronts use memorable moments from the show. They’re a combination of action shots and character portraits. The bottom of the card has a yellow icon of the USS Enterprise along with a short caption done in a 3-D-style font. Overall, it’s a relatively simple layout that helps capture the show’s imagination. The bright colors certainly add a lot of pop as well.
1976 Topps Star Trek card backs have a blue background and yellow accents. The write-ups are headlined “Captain’s Log” and describe what’s on the front. Most cards also mention what episode it’s from. Others advertise the forthcoming feature film, that wouldn’t actually release until 1979.
This remains an extremely popular set of Star Trek trading cards. In recent years, professionally graded singles have really taken off with astronomical numbers being reached for PSA 10 copies. Unopened boxes have topped $10,000.
1976 Topps Star Trek packs have five cards plus one sticker (not to mention a wrapper with some great pop art of Kirk and Spock). Boxes come with 36 packs.
