1974 Wonder Bread Hanna-Barbera Magic Tricks is a bowl of cereal and glass of orange away from a perfect Saturday morning. It combines classic cartoons, the foundation for French Toast and the ability to wow your seldom-seen cousins.
The main set consists of 25 cards, each with characters from one of several different Hanna-Barbera animated series:
- The Addams Family
- Goober and the Ghost Chasers
- The Harlem Globetrotters
- Scooby-Doo, Where Are You
- Speed Buggy
- Valley of the Dinosaurs
- Wait Till Your Your Mother Gets Home
Fronts are standard fare with simple comic-style gags from one of the featured shows.
Backs have step-by-step instructions on a variety of tricks involving cards, coins and other common items. It’s a basic starter kit for the next Houdini or David Copperfield.
In addition to the main set, there is a checklist with Scooby-Doo. This card is extremely scarce to the point where sets are often considered complete without it.
1974 Wonder Bread Hanna-Barbera Magic Tricks trading cards were part of a promotion in which one card was included in specially marked loaves of bread.
Today, the set isn’t widely available, particularly in top condition. Cards faced challenges immediately simply by their packaging and the fact that bags would be tossed around on shelves, in carts and onto counters and bread boxes before being freed to eager kids’ hands. Don’t be surprised if cards with more popular characters like Scooby-Doo and the Harlem Globetrotters cost a little more as well.
