Only a handful of entertainment properties have gotten three or more releases within the span of a single year. Batman, Star Wars and The Beatles are some that come to mind. And then there’s 1971 Topps Partridge Family. Today, that might seem odd but back then, the show was a phenomenon.
1971 Topps Partridge Family Checklist Details
Each of the three 1971 Topps Partridge Family sets are similar in an overall sense. However, each stands on their own with unique numbering and different colored borders. Not all of the sets are available in the same quantities, either.
Things kick off with Series 1, which are easily identifiable by their yellow borders. A total of 55 cards make up the checklist. Most of the images come directly from the show, although some take more of a portrait approach.
On the reverse, most are puzzle pieces with the outside pieces also including actor bios. Cards that don’t have puzzles have song lyrics.
Series 2 is virtually the same only this time with blue borders. Quantities appear to be a little more limited for these 55 cards, which are numbered with an ‘A’ (ie 1A, 5A, 14A).
Series 3 is both the largest and the rarest of them all. The checklist grows to 88 for the green-bordered cards. The approach is a little different as well. Many of the images still highlight the show, however a lot of the cards name the actors and label and number them as portraits. Not surprisingly, the majority of these are centered on David Cassidy. Others do as well, just not in the same quantity.
Backs on these are a mix of puzzle pieces and more lyrics in case one wanted to sing along with their records or while watching reruns. For the card numbers, Series 3 cards have an added ‘B’ (ie 1B, 5B, 14B).
1971 Topps Partridge Family Series 3 cards are out there but they’re noticeably in smaller supply than their yellow- and blue bordered predecessors. Factor in the larger checklist and putting this series together can be challenging.
