1964 Topps Beatles Black and White Series 1 trading cards kicked off a busy hobby year for the bad. It is one of seven sets of Beatles trading cards put out that year by the New York-based card maker.
The set gets its name for the use of black and white photos on the card fronts. They’re a mix of individual portraits and casual group shots of the Fab Four playing at the beach, eating food, shopping for bananas and goofing around.
1964 Topps Beatles Black and White card fronts all have facsimile signatures on the front. These are printed directly on the card and aren’t real autographs. Sorry to break the news of lost riches if you found a stash thinking that you found some valuable autographs.
With so many sets all at once, it shouldn’t be a surprise that there’s not much to 1964 Topps Beatles Black and White beyond the images. Card backs are blank save for a small green rectangle on the back noting the card number and the size of the set.
Enduring Popularity
Given the legendary status of the band, it shouldn’t be surprising that Beatles trading cards are still popular and collectible today. That said, unless they’re in top shape and professionally graded by a company like PSA, they’re still relatively affordable. The thin white borders make centering tough on the cards. Most were also well-loved back when Beatlemania was at its peak.
