1964 Donruss Addams Family trading cards aren’t creepy, a little bit kooky but not particularly mysterious or spooky. But it is fun and with the franchise remaining relevant through a variety of different turns on both the big and small screens, collectors still have reason to chase it.
1964 Donruss Addams Family Checklist Details
Consisting of a modest 66 cards, the set highlights Gomez and Morticia Addams as well as other members of their family like Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester, Grandmama and Lurch. It’s not so much a story-driven release. Rather, it’s a mix of stills that showcases the dark but lighthearted tone that makes the series remain appealing decades later.
Each card has a photo, either from the series or a publicity shot. Of course, they’re in black and white, just like the the show. Overlaying the image is the Addams Family word art in read plus the card number inside of a circle. Underneath, Donruss included enough room for a caption, copyright info, an ad to watch the show on ABC, and a note to finish the set and use the backs to make an Addams family portrait.
For that last part to work, backs need to be puzzle pieces. And that’s exactly what they are, adding no additional background or details on the show.
While most of the cards center on the focal family, a handful have guests or secondary characters. Look closely and you may notice that their faces look a little off. That’s because they’ve been altered slightly, possibly to tweak actors’ likenesses.
Canadian Variations
1964 Donruss Addams Family trading cards do have a second scarcer version. These were available to Canadian collectors. There’s only one small difference from their American counterparts — Canadian versions have a “Printed in U.S.A.” stamp added to them. It’s a hand stamp that can run along the bottom or through the existing text.
One of the more notable releases from the decade, 1964 Donruss Addams Family trading cards continue to carry solid values. They’re not overly rare but finding singles in top condition can be either tricky or carry big price tags. This is also helping to drive prices for the remaining unopened packs that are out there, which now sell for hundreds.
